DRIEBERGEN-RIJSENBURG – A school playground isn’t just a place where kids feel at home, birds and other animals do too. Elementary school ‘De Kring’ (The Circle) in Driebergen is one of the prize-winners and received a cheque for re-designing the playground. “There will be a large planter box, the football field will be fenced off with high post, there’ll be bushes, and an outside classroom too,” says student Lars. He likes the new plans for the playground. “It seems fun to play more greenly, because then you can help nature, and play hide-and-seek even better.”

Stefan Vreugdenhil, Lars’ father, is co-designer of the plans that won the school 7.500 euros. He points out the win-win situation of a greener playground: “The kids can play, teachers can use it for outdoor classes, and the birds and other species profit as well. It’ll take some time before all plans are fulfilled, but a large step forward has been made by receiving the cheque,” according the initiators. The start of spring, too, will help with making the playground more green.
