Before I started painting I didn’t have a clue about any of it and only started to gain some knowledge and experience during a course in watercolours. It is fun and relaxing to create something new. Plus it is very important to just have fun.
In 2019, researcher Jennifer Vreugdenhil started the project ‘European Turtle Doves in a Changed Landscape’, in coordination with Het Zeeuws Landschap and assisted by subsidy provided by the Nationale Postcode Loterij. Jennifer’s research targets characterisation of locations where European turtle doves look for food.

BORCULO – Lenie Jacobs (73) and Huib Vreugdenhil (72) can call themselves Tennis OldStars. The two from Borculo, together with 17 other 60-plus players, meet each Thursday morning at tennisclub De Wildbaan for a game and a cuppa coffee. Vreugdenhil: “The Borculo OldStars are more than just 60-plus tennis players, we’re friends”. Tennis has been played at De Wildbaan by people over 60 for a while. Vreugdenhil: “For years there was talk at the club about tennis for people over 60, but nothing happened. When I turned 65, I thought: now it is time to really pick it up. Then I started a Thursday morning group with a few other over 60s. We started with five tennis players. Now there are twelve.”
AMSTERDAM – Suddenly there she was: Laura Vreugdenhil with The Clubsandwich Company, situated just behind the Museumplein at the Roelof Hartstreet in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The name hints at the formula that focuses on the famous sandwich with ‘chicken lettuce under bacon’. It is clear that you can’t just eat two, but ten variations of this famous sandwich at The Clubsandwich Company. But how? Owner Laura says:

SOEST – pop-up museum The Discovery has won the 2021 Soest Arts Award. The Dis-covery was the initiative of Anita Vreugdenhil from Arts Centre Idea, in close cooperation with Maria Bremmer and Petra Wieman of Lyvore, Idelette Sleurink of SWOS, and Leintje Hoogen-kamp of Kunstuitleen Gooi- en Eemland.
Johannes (Joop) Vreugdenhil (O VIII c.9) was born July 18th, 1904, in The Hague, and died April 28th, 1969. Joop Vreugdenhil went to the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. He was a painter, drawer, and lithographer.

DRIEBERGEN-RIJSENBURG – A school playground isn’t just a place where kids feel at home, birds and other animals do too. Elementary school ‘De Kring’ (The Circle) in Driebergen is one of the prize-winners and received a cheque for re-designing the playground. “There will be a large planter box, the football field will be fenced off with high post, there’ll be bushes, and an outside classroom too,” says student Lars. He likes the new plans for the playground. “It seems fun to play more greenly, because then you can help nature, and play hide-and-seek even better.”
